MGLJ Foundation · A founder’s note

A child’s future is shaped by the stability around them.

I started MGLJ informally in February 2022. We support children through education and work with the households around them, because lasting learning needs a stable foundation.

A two-part model

Scholarships and household enterprise, together.

MGLJ is a Nigerian non-profit creating lasting opportunity for vulnerable children and families through education and community empowerment. Our model treats household stability as a foundation for sustained educational outcomes and builds systems-thinking capacity with partner schools.

Scholarships have been awarded since 2022, supporting children from early childhood through secondary school. The first beneficiary has completed university. A second strand offers seed funding and mentorship to single-parent and widow-led households, helping them move from aid dependency toward micro-enterprise.

How the model works

The household is part of the education strategy.

01 / CHILDREN

Scholarships

Support from early childhood through secondary school, building continuity in a learner’s education.

02 / HOUSEHOLDS

Micro-enterprise

Seed funding and mentorship for single-parent and widow-led homes, with household financial stability as the goal.

03 / SYSTEMS

Partner schools

Build systems-thinking capacity with schools so support can be sustained and outcomes tracked.

We tackle the economic roots of school dropout by connecting children’s scholarships with parents’ financial stability.

Governance: Sowari serves as Founder, Executive Director and Board Chair. MGLJ began informally in February 2022 and was officially registered in Nigeria in 2026.
